Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe: A Hui Hou, Mona Joy: Hawaiʻi’s Songbird Flies Home

The music world mourns the passing of Mona Joy Lum, affectionately known as Mona Joy, one of Hawaiʻi’s most beloved and enduring musical icons. With a career spanning decades, her angelic voice and captivating stage presence graced the most prestigious venues in the islands and beyond, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the pleasure of hearing her sing. Melanie Palacio, her gifted musician daughter shared the news with us, after we just attended the Hawaiian Recording Academy Awards ceremony together, a few months back in Honolulu.

Mona Joy’s journey began in the vibrant music scene of Waikiki, where she rose to prominence as one of “The Songbirds of Waikiki.” Her talent shone brightly on the stages of legendary hotels like the Niumalu, The Queens Surf, Moana Surfrider, The Royal Hawaiian, and The Halekulani. Her voice, imbued with the spirit of aloha, carried the enchanting melodies of Hawaiian music to audiences worldwide.

Her influence extended far beyond the shores of her island home. As “The Lex Girl” at The Lexington Hotel’s Hawaiian Room in Manhattan, she captivated New York audiences and even earned the admiration of music legends like Elton John. Her recordings, now treasured collector’s items, stand as a testament to her timeless artistry.

Though widely recognized for her musical talent, Mona Joy’s legacy extends far deeper. A respected member of the Hale O Na Aliʻi, a royal society, she carried the torch of Hawaiian culture and tradition with grace and dignity. Her dedication to her heritage was further exemplified by her participation in the Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo, a dream come true for the seasoned performer.

In recognition of her unparalleled contributions to Hawaiian music, Mona Joy was honored with the prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. This accolade cemented her status as a true legend of the islands, her name forever etched in the annals of Hawaiʻi’s musical history.

Even in her 90s, Mona Joy’s passion for music burned bright. She continued to embrace new opportunities, working on projects to share her music with a new generation through digital platforms. Her unwavering spirit and dedication to her craft served as an inspiration to all.

Mona Joy’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her music and legacy will continue to inspire and uplift for generations to come. Her voice, a true gift from the islands, will forever echo in the gentle breezes of Hawaiʻi, a reminder of the enduring power of music and aloha.

Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe: Sony Music premieres a roof top rollerblade disco on a Hollywood Rooftop!

The haze of the LA sunset cast long shadows across the cityscape, painting the sky in hues of burnt orange and dusky rose. Excitement thrummed through the air, thicker than the smog that usually clung to the City of Angels. Tonight was Friday, November 8th, and EP/LP was the place to be.

A kaleidoscope of lights pulsed from the rooftop, beckoning partygoers like moths to a flame. The promise of “Sony Music’s New Fall Anthems” hung heavy in the air, a siren song for music lovers and trendsetters alike. Whispers of “special guest, international artists” had whipped the city into a frenzy all week. Who would it be? A hot new DJ from Berlin? A K-Pop sensation taking the US by storm? The mystery only amplified the anticipation.

Inside, the elevator doors opened onto a scene straight out of a dream. EP/LP had been transformed into a Tulum-inspired oasis, all flowing white fabrics, lush greenery, and flickering candlelight. The 360-degree view was breathtaking – the iconic Hollywood sign glowing in the distance, the sprawling city lights twinkling below, and the vast Pacific Ocean shimmering in the moonlight.

The music, a thumping mix of disco classics and fresh new beats, vibrated through the floor and into your soul. On the Melrose Rooftop, the roller disco was in full swing. Skates glittered under the disco ball, bodies swayed to the rhythm, and laughter echoed through the warm night air. Some wore neon leg warmers and vintage roller skates, a nod to the retro theme. Others, dressed to the nines in designer labels, proved that even roller disco could be chic.

For those who preferred a less strenuous activity, the Rooftop Theater offered a cinematic escape. Cult classic disco movies flickered across the screen, their soundtracks piped through silent disco headphones. Groups of friends lounged on comfy beanbags, sharing popcorn and whispering commentary.

The aroma of street food wafted from every corner. Retro food stalls offered gourmet takes on classic treats: Korean corn dogs with kimchi ketchup, truffle mac and cheese bites, and mini lobster rolls with aioli. Thirst was quenched with craft cocktails, served in glowing glasses that mimicked the city lights below.

As the night deepened and the stars emerged, the energy only intensified. The “special guests” finally took the stage, and the crowd erupted. Cameras flashed, bodies moved in unison, and the music soared, carrying the promise of a night that would be etched in LA’s memory forever. EP/LP, on this Friday night, was the epicenter of the city’s vibrant heartbeat, a testament to the power of music, art, and the magic of a truly unforgettable party.

Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe: Disney World New Premier Pass – Skip all Lines

Disney World has recently introduced a new way to skip the lines at their parks called the Lightning Lane Premier Pass. This is a significant upgrade from the existing Lightning Lane system and offers guests a whole new level of convenience and flexibility.

Here’s a breakdown of the key features of the Lightning Lane Premier Pass:

  • Skip every Lightning Lane: With this pass, you can bypass the standby lines at every ride that offers a Lightning Lane, essentially giving you expedited access to all the most popular attractions.
  • No need to book in advance: Unlike the regular Lightning Lane passes, where you have to select specific ride times in advance, the Premier Pass allows you to simply walk up to the Lightning Lane entrance at any time and enter. This offers greater spontaneity and flexibility in planning your day.
  • One-time access to each ride: You can use the Premier Pass to skip the line once per ride per day.
  • Limited availability: Disney is intentionally limiting the number of Premier Passes sold each day to avoid overcrowding the Lightning Lanes and maintain a smooth experience for everyone.
  • High price point: This premium service comes at a premium cost. Prices vary by park and date, ranging from $149 to $449 per pass, in addition to the regular park admission ticket.

How to purchase:

Starting October 30, 2024, guests staying at Disney Deluxe or Deluxe Villa resorts can purchase the Lightning Lane Premier Pass up to seven days in advance of their visit through the My Disney Experience app.

Is it worth it?

The value of the Premier Pass depends on your priorities and budget. If you’re looking to maximize your time in the parks and experience as many attractions as possible without waiting in long lines, and are willing to pay a significant amount for that convenience, then the Premier Pass might be a good option for you. However, if you’re on a tight budget or are comfortable with some level of waiting, then the regular Lightning Lane passes or Genie+ service might be a more cost-effective choice.

The Lightning Lane Premier Pass is currently a pilot program, and its availability and features may be subject to change. It’s always recommended to check the official Disney World website or app for the latest information and pricing.

Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe: Satellite Cellphones

Praying for Florida ! Many phones do have a satellite connection nowadays built in the little device. Please look into your phone menu for Emergency SOS. You or your neighbor with a newer iphone might have that free feature up and running if needed. Coming from a hi-tech old Royal family, my grandfather Dr.h.c. Carl Hermann Roderbourg founded the VARTA Battery Empire in Europe – the batteries that are in every BMW – together with the BMW owner Quand, I investigated the modern satellite communication methods for you.

There are a few ways to connect your phone to a satellite for emergency services:

1. Built-in Satellite Connectivity:

  • iPhone 14 and later: These models have built-in satellite connectivity that allows you to send emergency SOS messages via satellite when you’re outside of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. To activate it, try calling or texting emergency services. If you don’t have cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, you’ll see an “Emergency SOS via satellite” option. Follow the onscreen instructions to connect to a satellite and send a message to an emergency dispatch center.
  • Android phones with Bullitt Satellite Messenger: Some newer Android phones, like the Motorola Defy 2, have integrated Bullitt Satellite Messenger, which offers similar functionality to Apple’s Emergency SOS. You’ll need a subscription to the service, but it allows two-way messaging via satellite.

2. Dedicated Satellite Communication Devices:

  • Satellite Messengers: Devices like the Garmin inReach Mini 2, ACR Bivy Stick, and Spot X provide satellite connectivity for messaging and SOS. They typically connect to your phone via Bluetooth and use an app to access your contacts and send messages. These devices usually require a subscription for satellite services.
  • Satellite Hotspots: Devices like the Iridium GO! create a satellite Wi-Fi hotspot that your phone can connect to. This allows you to use your phone for voice calls, text messages, and email over satellite, but it’s a more expensive option.

Important things to keep in mind:

  • Clear view of the sky: Satellite connections require a clear view of the sky, so you may need to move to an open area to connect.
  • Subscription fees: Most satellite communication services require a subscription.
  • Limited functionality: Satellite connections are typically slower and less reliable than cellular or Wi-Fi, so you may not be able to send large files or make high-quality voice calls.
  • Emergency services: When using satellite for emergency services, be prepared to provide your location and a brief description of the emergency.

Remember, satellite communication should be reserved for situations where you don’t have cellular or Wi-Fi coverage and need to contact emergency services or loved ones.
