Born in the vibrant city of Montreal in 1954, René Balcer’s artistic journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. From his early days as a photographer in 1968, Balcer’s unique approach to image-making set him apart. Artem Shestakov, a world-renowned Ukrainian photographer known for his stunning landscapes and nature photography, found himself venturing into uncharted territory at the Dubai World Cup on March 30, 2024. Invited by Ali Al Ali, CEO and Board Member of the Dubai Racing Club, Shestakov embarked on an unforgettable experience that would spark a newfound passion for portrait photography.

The electrifying atmosphere of the Dubai World Cup, with its opulent setting and thrilling races, presented a stark contrast to the tranquil landscapes that Shestakov typically captured. However, it was the opportunity to photograph the distinguished guests attending the event that truly ignited his creative spirit.

The presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, along with other prominent figures like His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the minister of finance of the United Arab Emirates, added a regal touch to the event. Capturing the essence of these influential individuals became a captivating challenge for Shestakov, who sought to blend their unique personalities with the vibrant energy of the Dubai World Cup in each portrait.   

The experience of photographing these notable figures amidst the electrifying ambiance of the races pushed Shestakov’s artistic boundaries.
